Bangkok Consultation
Bangkok consultation with Charter Guiding Group, Rebrand Committee and Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand
March 17-19, 2023
Federation-wide virtual consultations
Throughout 2023, we hosted a three all-federation virtual consultations, to give MAs and regional office staff at all levels a chance to reflect on our values. Through art, case studies and discussion, we collectively explore what it meant to be a part of IPPF and what moves us to act. The virtual consultations were held on May 10, July 13 and October 11.

Regions have their say!
Throughout 2023, we hosted consultations in each of the regions: SARO, ESEAOR (including the Pacific), AWRO, ARO, ACRO and EN. Across these meetings, we spoke with Executive Directors of MAs, youth representatives, and Presidents. We also consulted with regional office staff of all grades and functions, and reached out into the community to speak with young activists, community leaders, LGBTQI+ and sex worker organisations, injecting drug users, peer educators, migrants and many more. These consultations allowed us to explore both the core values that IPPF needs to represent, as well as what they look like in specific contexts. Participants also edited and drafted definitions for the values, and advised on context specific terminology.
Meetings with Guiding Group and Rebrand Committee
Since the first meeting in March, 2023, the Charter Guiding Group (CGG) and Rebrand Committee (RC) and Team have had a series of meetings. These meetings have been updates on progress, decision-making moments and a chance to reflect on how the values discussions are shaping up. In particular, the group discusses how to consult in-depth about challenging questions that arise and developing detailed and action-based values. There were two detailed meetings in May and September, and a face-to-face meeting in Ghana. At the May meetings, the Guiding Group and Rebrand Committee agreed to host a series of focus groups to refine the "values clusters" and at the September meeting, approved the evolving short list of values, as set out in the below PowerPoint. During the November meeting, they were asked to provide feedback on the draft Charter of Values and advise the team on next steps.
Values for the future - youth consultations
Youth are a big part of IPPF now, and will continue to be in the future; their voices are essential to this work. We have been engaging with youth across all the regional meetings, and having separate conversations with them virtually. It has been incredible to get their insights on the values that matter and who they want IPPF to be. With insight on the impact of socio-economic diversity and an unwavering commitment to intersectionality, it is clear that the youth are setting a forward-looking agenda!

Focus groups
To help to refine and define the "values clusters" that emerged from the first phase of consultation, Guiding Group and Rebrand Committee Members hosted 12 focus groups with representatives across the full Federation. The goal of these groups was to take the time to really explore how these values work in practice, whether they resonate across regions, and to decide which are the most core to IPPF's identity. These focus groups then shaped the development of the short list of values that was then tested at face-to-face meetings across all regions.
