Humanitarian Capacity Development Centre
130 million people across the world are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection (OCHA humanitarian overview 2018), of which 75% are women and children (UNFPA humanitarian action overview 2017.) SRHR is recognized globally as a critical need in crisis settings but at the operational level does not receive the attention it deserves.
There is a lack of actors providing the full range of essential life-saving SRH services in humanitarian settings and services such as Clinical Management of Rape and Safe Abortion Care are often neglected. Marginalized populations are are particularly undeserved.
The IPPF SRH Humanitarian Capacity Development Centre will significantly boost the ability of IPPF MAs to deliver high quality SRH services in crises in accordance with the commitments made in the IPPF Strategic Framework and Humanitarian Strategy, and IPPF’s capacity to meet donor standards and requirements to secure funding for these services.
The main function of the center is to build the capacity of MAs working in countries affected by protracted crises, or in countries hosting significant numbers of people from ongoing crises. The capacity building programme enables MAs to:
- scale-up provision of high quality, needs-based services which at least meet MISP service standards,
- provide life-saving MISP services within 72 hours of a spike in the crisis or in response to a new acute crisis, e.g. a flood, cyclone or disease epidemic.
