INTRODUCING THE LEAD US PARTNERSHIPS AND FUNDRAISING
IPPF Secretariat has hired Alden Nouga to lead partnerships and fundraising in the United States. Alden brings 20 years’ global family planning/reproductive health experience with US donors and health partners – she worked 6 years with CARE, 12 years with Pathfinder, and 4 years with Save the Children. We’re so glad to have her on staff to support IPPF and MAs as we re-engage with USAID and expand partnerships with US-based organizations. In particular, Alden is an expert on USAID and CDC proposals – she is looking forward to helping with all IPPF and MA work on any US donor or partner related work! Alden speaks French and has worked extensively in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Niger, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Her contact is anouga-ngog@ippf.org or skype Alden Nouga or WhatsApp 617-412-0746. She will be working closely with Resource Mobilization counterparts in IPPF Regional Offices.
A BIT ABOUT USAID
USAID is a major global health and family planning donor around the world. During President Trump’s administration the Global Gag Rule was in effect and IPPF and its MAs were not eligible for most US funding. Now that President Biden is in place the Global Gag Rule is lifted so IPPF and its MAs are eligible again. Typically USAID funding is done through competitive Requests for Applications. Projects are very large long-term health projects (15-100M USD 5 year projects). USAID shares its plans for upcoming proposals publicly. For most proposals, MAs will be an appropriate “sub” partner to an organization with a lot of USAID experience. MAs will be in high demand given USAID’s preference for local NGO sub-partners in proposals. Negotiating these partnerships can be challenging and Alden’s job is to support you. Alden will track USAID’s funding plans, will be in touch if there are updates for your country, and will accompany you throughout the process. Alden also has good relationships with most USAID partners and can help make contact with likely competitors. Also, MAs may want to meet with USAID missions in-country and existing USAID projects may want to add MAs for their work – Alden is happy to be in touch about anything USAID-related!
