Dear IPPF:
I hope that this message finds you all safe and well. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding work of MAs across the Federation to keep clinics open and continue to serve women and girls throughout the unprecedented global crisis.
While most of the world is under some sort of stay at home order, both staff and the Transition Committee have worked closely together to deliver on key milestones in the reform.
The window for applications for the Board of Trustee and Nominations and Governance Committee roles closed on March 27. We received more than 200 applications. This is quite a good number considering the external factors during the application timeframe. The TC are now working with Perret Laver (the executive search firm) to select 30 candidates for interviews, which will be held virtually starting mid-April.
We also drafted proposed changes to the regulations that reflect the principles of the Delhi General Assembly, and these have been released to the Governing Council (GC) as required 6 weeks ahead of the meeting. The focus of the Legal Support Team is now turning to drafting the required changes to the bylaws, which will be submitted 4 weeks before the GC meeting. In light of the pandemic, the GC will move ahead with the meeting in May, using a virtual platform. This will allow the GC to vote on the proposed changes and keep the reform process moving.
Meanwhile the Resource Allocation work is continuing at pace to create new guidelines, processes, and criteria for the fund allocation under each of the three streams of the new model. For this, IPPF engaged an external consulting company (Redstone), and they have started to gather all the relevant information to develop a new formula for Stream 1 funding. There will be a survey released in the second half of April to engage with MAs to gather their views.
In this time of crisis, it is more important than ever that we are working together to ensure the organisation is enabled to be agile and responsive to the unmet needs of all the vulnerable communities we serve.
As always, please continue to visit the reform website for continuing updates on the reform progress.
Should anyone wish to add their voice to the growing number of people who are sharing blogs or vlogs on the ‘Voices for Change’ page, please send an email to ippfreform@ippf.org
Stay safe
Andreas Prager, TC Chair
